There are a lot of holidays in Belarus. We also have a lot of traditions. One of the most popular traditional holidays in Belarus is Kupalle. Kupalle is the most loved and celebrated pagan holiday in Belarus. Its celebration offers a whole complex of rituals, beliefes, love and magic. Kupalle is celebrated Kupalle is celebrated in the night from 6 July to 7 July.
Years ago young girls went into the meadows to collect plants and herbs during the day of 6 July. It was believed that the planys garthered at that time had special and strength and could protect people and their homes from illnesses and evil spirits. The central part of celebration was fire.
Kupalle fire is the symbol of life and Yaryla and drove away death. During yhe day young men would prepare the place to start the fire. They would go arround the village collecting old things - clothes, broken barrels - and would take them out to the place, chosen for the festivity.
